Y/Project: Men's and women's show Autumn/Winter 2018/19 (with interview)

Designer : Glenn Martens Inspiration: A varied casting, a new attitude, everything round and voluminous.Collection: A chic ease, coolly worn. Glenn Martens gets back to his codes of split sleeves and superposition on the legs. The result: winter jumpers rolled like scarves, coats defined by new volumes, as though they were made double, no longer knowing where a jacket starts and ends. Faux leather and fur take pride of place next winter, whilst denim has a very eighties faded aspect. To note: The collaboration with the famous fur Ugg boots which take on a new dimension, all slouched or thigh high. Interview with Glenn Martens: Since the start of Y/Project, we’ve always played with doubling things, there were tripled legs, tripled things and it’s true that it’s a game we really love because it gives lots of possibilities on wearing the pieces in different ways and it’s true that it makes a sort of symbiosis of different people, different pieces. In any one piece there’s different ways of wearing it, most of the time we don’t know where it starts and ends. It’s a discovery. For us, we want Y/Project to be inspired by lots of people, lots of things and we also want to give a reflection, full of different possibilities. Full of different pieces be it tailored pieces or street pieces, and more romantic pieces so we really want to open up all the possibilities. We’re often contacted to do collaborations and I find that interesting if it’s a challenge, also if it’s an interesting work. I found that with Ugg, it’s such an iconic brand, a true legend and when you put your feet in Uggs it’s like butter. We really haven’t started to expand the plan of the collection, or to do bigger shows, it’s really that the internal structure has been reinforced, I think that the ANDAM award was really thanks to that.
