Chanel's Métiers d'Art Paris Collection -New York 2018/19

Artistic Director: Karl LagerfeldChanel chose the MET in New York to present their collection celebrating the brands métiers d’art.Collection: Inspired by Ancient Egypt and New York City the collection was revealed in front of the Temple of Dendur.The collection showcases the brand and the atelier’s exceptional know-how such as Lemarié, Goossens, Lesage and Maison Michel amongst others… with an ode to tweed and gold especially focusing on Ousekh-like collars, with clear and simple lines and pure, clean and geometric shapes. Hips are emphasised with a large belt, suits are adorned with borders and are rounded sometimes resembling a wrap skirt. Embroidery adorns low necks, hips and the bottom of dresses. The graffiti artist Cyril Kongo designed the prints enlivening blouses, dresses and bags.Accessories echo Egyptian civilisation, with tote bags decorated with hieroglyphics, and miniaudiere’s decorated with scarabs as well as pyramid shaped bags and cuff bracelets.Focus on: model’s makeup, coloured eyeliner enhances their eyes reminding us of Egyptian Kohl as well as gold tights.Note the array of personalities including Pharrell Williams (who will present his own capsule collection for the brand in 2019) who modelled before Blake Lively, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Lily-Rose Depp.Music from the show
